Lauren Riihimaki (or LaurDIY) has created a DIY empire which she continues to grow today. She sat down with us to talk about her life that started off on social media.
What do you think is an important message to give to your young viewers?
I can’t imagine growing up in the digital world that pre-teens have to grow up in now. It must be so hard to go on Instagram and constantly compare yourself to all these gorgeous girls with perfect bodies. Comparison kills everything, especially for younger girls that are really impressionable. I think it’s so important to focus on what is real and tangible and finding happiness within yourself!
How do you feel you best connect to your audience and followers?
There are so many good ways to interact with fans, whether it be answering comments of favoriting tweets. I also love live streaming, because it’s kind of like we’re hanging out together, even if you’re in completely different parts of the world.
How do you come up with your video ideas?
It’s a lot of following what’s in style and what is trending in the world. There’s back to school in the summer, then Thanksgiving and then the winter holidays!
I think it’s so important to focus on what is real and tangible and finding happiness within yourself!
What are your favorite types of videos to film?
DIYs are always so fun to film because I’m so familiar with them, but collabs are my favorite film! There’s someone else to vibe with and interact with which is fun.
What is the favorite video you have done?
DIY Queen, the parody rap video that I made!
What do you miss most from home?
Definitely my family! And how nice people are in Canada.
What’s your favorite city in the world?
It’s a tie between my hometown and LA!
What are three things you always have in your purse?
A snack, a phone charger, and lash glue.
